Google Business Profile (GBP) Integration Setup
This document outlines the step-by-step process for setting up a new location and ensuring its Google Business Profile is successfully created and synced in Yext.
The article consists of two main parts:
- GBP Integration Setup & Status Checks: Explains how to verify your Google account link, check listing sync statuses, review listing details for issues, and check bulk verification.
- Setting Up a New Location for GBP in Yext: Outlines the prerequisites for adding a new location and details two paths for creating and syncing the profile—letting Yext auto-create the listing (Path A) or manually creating and syncing it (Path B).
Part 1: Setting up Google Integration (Required)
Step 1: Verify Your Google Account is Linked
- Click the Account Details icon in the bottom left corner of the navigation bar and select Account Settings.
- Click Linked Accounts.
- Confirm that a Google Business Profile account is listed. If not, click Link Account for Google Business Profile and follow the prompts to sign in with Google and grant permissions.
Step 2: Check Listing Sync Status
- Navigate to Listings > All Listings (or Listings > Publishers).
- Look at the Listing Status column for your Google Business Profile listings.
- A healthy listing will show a status of Synced.
If you see Not Synced, check the Status Details column for the specific reason.
Step 3: Review Listing Details for Issues
- Click the Google Business Profile publisher icon next to a listing to open its detail view.
- Check the Status tab for any sync issues and suggested resolution steps.
- Check the Field Accuracy tab to see if individual fields are syncing correctly.
Step 4: Check Bulk Verification Status (if applicable)
If your account uses bulk verification, navigate to Account Settings > Google Bulk Verification Status to see the verification status of all your location groups. Yext checks this status daily, and new locations can take up to 72 hours to verify.
Setting Up a New Location for GBP in Yext
Prerequisites (Both Paths)
Before anything else, create and configure the entity in Yext:
Important: Please reach out to support@ui.marketing if you would like AdCellerant to add the entity for you. HERE is the process doc for adding new locations.
- Navigate to Knowledge Graph > Entities and click Add Data.
- Choose your entity type (e.g., Location, Restaurant).
- Fill out all required fields — Name, Address, Phone, Category, etc.
- Do not add "- Coming Soon" to the Name field, as Google will automatically strip it.
- If the location isn't open yet, add future opening date details:
- Use the Open Date field if you know the exact date.
- Use the Open Month field if only the month is known.
- Ensure a service license is assigned to the entity. AdCellerant will have to activate the services for you. Please reach out to support@ui.marketing to have services activated.
Path A: Let Yext Auto-Create the GBP Listing (~7-day turnaround time)
Use this path when the location does not yet exist in Google Business Profile.
Important: Your Google Business Profile won't be generated until services are activated. Please ask AdCellerant to activate services 2–4 weeks before your opening date so there is plenty of time.
- Navigate to Listings > Configuration.
- Under Sync Settings > Google Business Profile, ensure the following toggles are enabled:
- Automatically Opt In — so the entity is immediately opted into GBP once a license is assigned.
- Create Listings — so Yext will automatically create a new GBP listing when no existing match is found.
- Once the entity is created and services are activated, Yext will automatically attempt to create the listing on GBP.
- Navigate to Listings > All Listings and monitor the listing status. Note that creating a new listing can take a couple of days.
- Once created, the listing will need to be verified on Google. Follow the steps in Yext's How to Verify Your Google Business Profile article to complete verification.
Path B: Manually Create the GBP Listing and Sync It to the Entity (3-5 day turnaround time)
Use this path when the location already exists (or will be manually created) in Google Business Profile.
- Create and verify the listing directly in your Google Business Profile account first.
- In Yext, navigate to Listings > All Listings.
- Click the Set Up button next to the new entity for Google Business Profile.
- Select the correct Linked Account (your GBP account). If it isn't listed, click + Linked Account to connect it.
- Select the appropriate Location Group from the dropdown.
- Yext will display potential matches from GBP. Select the correct existing listing.
- Verified listings will be marked with a green checkmark.
- If no match appears, use the Search Using a Store Code tile to locate the listing manually.
- Review the Content Change warning — confirm that the business name, address, phone number, and category match between Yext and GBP before proceeding.
- Click Continue and complete the setup flow.
- Navigate back to Listings > All Listings to confirm the listing status moves to Synced (this can take up to 72 hours).
Final Part: Linked Account Assignment (Required for both paths)
Ensure the correct Google Business Profile linked account is assigned to the entity:
- On the entity, click Internal Use Only in the left sidebar.
- Click the Linked Accounts field and confirm the correct GBP account is selected.
- Click Save.
