      Video Ad Creative Guidelines

      The below specifications apply to all video products running on The Trade Desk (TTD) except for Streaming TV.

      File types

      MP4, FLV, WebM, MOV, MPG, MPEG
      File size

      200 MB (recommended maximum)
      Length

      30 seconds or less (recommended)

      Greater than or equal to 5 seconds

      Less than or equal to 300 seconds (i.e., 5 minutes)

      Standard lengths are 5, 15, 30, and 60 seconds
      Ad formats

      Aspect ratio – 16:9; Size – 1920 x 1080 (recommended)

      Aspect ratio – 4:3; Size – 640 x 480 (other)
      Bitrate

      Greater than or equal to 2500 kbps (recommended)
      Companion banners (optional) – Listed in order of popularity

      JPG, GIF, PNG

      300 x 250, 728 x 90, 320 x 50, 160 x 600, 300 x 600, 300 x 50, 320 x 480, 468 x 60, 970 x 250

      Upon uploading the creative to The Trade Desk, they automatically create a VAST 2.0 version of the creative containing the encoded file. This way, your video can serve across various video placements to increase scale.


      The Trade Desk does not upscale, upsample, or stretch video assets that are uploaded, so we recommend always uploading the highest-quality video available

      Tracking Pixels

      We have the option to add third-party tracking pixels that track various events when an impression occurs. The following event types are available:

      • Start

      • Midpoint

      • First Quartile

      • Third Quartile

      • Complete

      • Impression

      • Click

      We can only take URL-hosted trackers (IMG or Javascript code is not accepted).

      Third-Party Hosted Video Specifications

      • The Trade Desk supports the following VAST specifications – VAST 2.0, VAST 2.0 with VPAID 1.0 Flash, VAST 2.0 with VPAID 2.0 JS, and VAST 3.0.
      • The Trade Desk supports the following media types – MP4, FLV, MPG, WebM, OGG, HLS, 3GP, VPAID 1.0, VPAID 2.0 Flash, and VPAID 2.0 JS.

      *The Trade Desk requires at least one of the above-bolded media types in third-party VAST
