Mailchimp Creatives for Email Campaigns

While we can accept creatives built using Mailchimp, we do not recommend this approach.

Why?
Mailchimp’s email builder is designed for in-platform use and doesn’t export code optimized for all email platforms. This often leads to challenges integrating these creatives into our reporting dashboard, causing broken images or links in advertiser reports.

Common Issues with Mailchimp Creatives

  • Exported creatives are frequently in JavaScript, but we require clean HTML code.

  • The HTML generated by Mailchimp tends to be bloated with unnecessary elements and code, making it less efficient.

  • Mailchimp’s sizing and layout settings often conflict with other email platforms—such as ignoring padding and margins around images—resulting in text wrapping awkwardly against images.

  • Images may be clipped, resized incorrectly, or broken. For example:

    • Outlook clips images taller than 1728px.

    • Gmail clips emails larger than 102KB.

Important: Preparing Your Mailchimp Creative for Submission

Before sending your Mailchimp creative for testing, please remove any wrapper text or references to the Mailchimp builder from the HTML code.

How to extract the HTML code:

  1. Email the creative to yourself from Mailchimp.

  2. Open the email and use “View Source” to access the raw HTML.

  3. Copy the HTML into a plain text editor (like Notepad).

  4. Send this HTML file to our team for testing.

Testing Mailchimp Creatives

Due to the frequent technical issues, we conduct multiple rounds of testing and fixes on Mailchimp creatives. To avoid exposing your full audience to these problems during testing, we recommend using a test seed list that excludes recipients who shouldn’t see any issues. Once the creative is finalized, you can send it to the broader audience for approval.
