Device ID (DID) Foot Traffic Attribution Report FAQs

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about Foot Traffic Attribution (FTA) Reports.

Device ID is only available in the US and Canada.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: Why does my “Top Five Cities” graph include cities not in my original geo-fenced targets?
A: Cities outside your geo-fence reflect the home locations of devices visiting your POI, indicating visitors likely traveled from out of state.

Q: Can I get a lifetime foot traffic report?
A: Lifetime reports are possible but not recommended, as device data is routinely scrubbed over time, making monthly reports more accurate and reliable after campaign completion.

Q: How far back can foot traffic data be retrieved?
A: Reports can be generated for up to 1 year.

Q: My results seem too good to be true — can you verify?
A: We can share screenshots of your geo-fence to verify its accuracy. For multi-level or mall locations, geo-fencing covers entire buildings or floors, which can inflate visit counts due to overlapping areas.

Q: Can accurate reports be pulled for stores inside malls or multi-level buildings?
A: For strip malls, accuracy is generally better since store divisions are visible. Multi-level buildings pose challenges due to aerial view limitations, often resulting in broader geo-fences.

Q: What are typical industry standards for attribution rates?
A: Attribution rates vary widely by campaign and target. We provide baselines based on your specific campaign metrics.

Q: If a user turns off location services and returns, are they counted twice?
A: No, foot traffic reports count unique devices once per reporting period, requiring location services to be active during visits.

Q: Why shouldn’t I use the same addresses for target and POI audiences?
A: FTA reports compare devices visiting competitor locations (target audience) with devices visiting your locations (POI). Using the same addresses for both skews data, showing duplicate devices rather than true attribution from competitor locations.

Q: What’s the timeframe for counting a visit within a POI?
A: Devices may be observed multiple times per day depending on usage and app location behavior. Location service settings and app permissions also impact data capture frequency.

Q: Why do I see visits on days when my POI is closed?
A: Visits may include staff, cleaning crews, or other personnel entering outside normal hours, and their devices will be captured if within the geo-frame.
